Hey, i was at the races today and see a lot of people putting there hand over there exhaust, i do it, but im just wondering why you do it. the feel the firing pattern?
A number of reasons…to see if the engine is spitting anything out like oil particles or unburnt fuel particles or carbon dust, etc. A good gearhead can smell his hand after holding it in the exhaust and tell if the engine is burning rich or lean. And to feel the exhaust to test for heat and a good compression/ignition hit.
