You should but you dont absolutly have to. Lets just put it this way, if you don't eventually it will wear down and you will have to replace it.
A pro told me that if you let off the gas just the slightest bit just for a fraction of a sec so that you aren't putting a load on it, you can shift without clutching. It doesn't have to be for a long time just enough time for you to shift to ease up the load on the changing gears so that you dont end up grinding down the gears.
