My brother is getting a dirt bike. He is 5 foot 6 inches and weighs 160 pounds. We are looking at purchasing this dirt bike:

http://spokane.craigslist.org/mcy/756582049.html

First off, I was wondering if 100cc is powerful for a dirt bike. We are planning on using it at our cabin in Montana. We will be taking it on back country dirt roads and up steep hills. Will this be adequate? How fast will a bike like this go? Does it suit my brothers size?

I'm 5'4'' and ride a 200cc (just started) i already want more power…

i'd highly suggest NOT getting that bike…. wait around for something bigger within your price range if you have to… you will NOT be happy with that bike for long…. a few days at most…

and depending on the steepness and height of these hills, he may not even make it half way up the first one… couldn't really lean over the handlebars because then the tire wouldn't dig enough becuase of the size of the bike… to compensate he'd have to center most of his weight over the rear tire and that's a disaster waiting to happen.

I have already had experience with a 200cc china dirt bike and I have my own track in my backyard. I prefer a 2 stroke instead of a 4 stroke. I was thinking about getting a cr250 or a KTM 250sx, but not sure. I want a bike that is reliable and doesn't have parts falling off all the time like my china bike. I plan on doing some trail riding also and won't be taking too many jumps.

I think that for trail riding you would do better with a 4 stroke. The crf250r is a good bike and would suit your height and weight well.
You are wise to steer away from the chinese bikes as they are really only for riding once then they fall apart and you need to replace them. It works out a bit expensive that way.

I have never been on a dirt bike and am wondering what bike i should get. I want a cheap good quality bike. Will a 250cc be too big for me? What are Atomik prox 200cc or PitPro 250cc like are they real bikes or kids bikes, their price was so cheap i wasnt sure. Also i would prefer to get a kawasaki do they have any cheap dirt bikes? i also plan on getting a kawasaki ninja gpx250r later down the road, wanted to do a whole kawasaki thing. Will be grateful for any info you can provide.

Firstly, any dirt bike will probobly be too tall for you at 5'2" as they have lots of clearance, but then dirt bikes are light as buggery in the 125 to 450 cc range so if you can reach the ground, it should be allright. those pit bikes or pocket rocket bikes are for kids (i wouldn't let my kids on though). they are a toy and are useless for anything. you cant register them, they cant handle real rough stuff and they are shockingly built and engineered

secondly, gpx250r's are road bikes, and would be perfect for you. I am 6'4" and 130kg and it even handles me (but it looks like cruelty to small motorbikes)

These bikes are total garbage! Seriously. I know a few people that have bought these Chinese made bikes just because they were cheep and after spending hours, sometimes days, trying to get them to run, the motors were junk in just a few rides.

Parts are completely unavailable. As in they don't even make any spare parts.

The 200cc bikes don't even have the power of a Honda XR100 that is half the size.

My friend is looking for a dirt bike for his 14 year old son, who has been riding motor bikes for some time. He has been looking at the thumpstar bikes. Does any body now how these bikes go, the good the bad the ugly would be greatly appreciated. His son is little for his age. He wants to buy an 250cc wolf trail dirt bike thumpstar. Yes its a cheap bike but can not afford that much. Thanks

I owna chinese bike…. a 200cc allroad to be exact… no problems with it so far, and i've taken it apart twice (painted it then decided i wanted to do a better job a month later)

most all chinese bikes (which i'm betting this is) are the same…. the real problems are finding parts for when it does break (even mclaren f1's will brake after so long…. machines brake, that's part of what machinery really is, replaceable parts)…. and don't expect any site you buy it from to carry parts for it, you have to go to other sites for the parts…

roketa is the easiest ot get parts for… but their apparent quality seems to be shotty at best…. you kinda have to weigh one for the other (durabilty vs. ease of getting parts) to find a good one…

if none of yal really know that much about dirt bikes and the parts involved, get roketa… so when it does need parts replaced, they will be extremely easy to find….
