My boyfriend is a huge motocross person and i have learned to love it.I really want to learn to ride but i want to surprise him with it. How can I get started?

I can see your enthusiasm to suprise him, but honestly, I think he will be much happier to ride with you! I met my husband riding dirtbikes and it is one of our favorite things to do together. He loves riding and helping me and I love it when he does that too! If you really have your heart set on suprising him – firstly – I would be careful who you get to teach you ie: some other guy helping you behind his back might really backfire the suprise! Do you know any other girls who ride? I see that someone suggested that borrowing a bike at the track is easy – but I have to tell you, if some strange girl who has never riden before and I had never met before wanted to borrow my bike, I wouldn't let her and I would be a little miffed at the nerve of someone I didn;t even know asking me to borrow my expensive and breakable toy – that they could hurt themselves on and sue me for!
I am sure your boyfriend has friends who have girlfriends who ride so I would use that avenue. Hopefully one of them is the same size as you and has extra gear because you will need a helmet, boots, a chest protector, goggles, gloves knee guards and probably elbow gauds. You should have pants at least too as they really help prevent bad abrasions.
Maybe thats how you could suprise him is go and get yourself set up with gear and show him you are serious!
My son has been been riding a pedal bike without training wheels since he was three. He has a Honda PW50. We have a helmet and riding pants although the riding pants are getting small as well as elbow pads and shin guards. At this point he is not out riding on trails mostly around the dirt and gravel parking lot or fields. He wore down the rubber on a pair of boots this last weekend they were not riding boots.

Most sites that sell online have gear for small kids. Btosports.com has a range and also a sizing chart that would be helpful.

Make sure you spend the money on a pair of proper mx boots as I have seen some very nasty burns from kids not wearing the right gear. They only have to drop the bike and be pinned under it.

Ok my son was riding his dirt bike and yes ofcorse all the gear to go with it. helmet, boots, chest protector, exct…anyway he competes in races so he was getting ready for the next race just to get pratice in at a local trail that we go to everyweekend, well he decided to put out a 3' bike ramp and jump it mind. you he is 7. awesome rider but still 7.so before i could explain to him and how to do it he had started to go for it but full throtal-jumped it got about 6 feet of air, then flipped over and over and over again with the bike landing on top of him in the end.at first he was crying call 911 we did not move him so we waited then we cut his clothes off to see the injurys . his groin got a pretty bad blow, and he's brused up .he is complaing that his tail bone hurts.he is able to walk but slowly . he is terrified of the hospital or i would take him. he is alert but seem to have the chills, just wondering if anyone knows signs i should look for when i can't see the injury-thanks mom

Get him to the hospital!! I'd call 911 if your not close to hospital. He could be showing s/s of shock, and the bad thing is kids compensate so well for shock thats it often overlooked early. Then they crash and it's too late. Scared or not he needs to be checked for internal bleeding!
I’m a 17 year old girl and i want to learn out to ride a dirt bike, but i’m not sure which kind of bike i need to get.

I also am a girl motocrosser. I started on a crf250r and it was tall so i got another 250- a yz250f. and ended up breaking my leg on it due to my height and not being able to touch the ground. I am 5 foot 4 but have short llegs. So I bought a yz85 and it is perfect for me. But I would say if you have the money to get a crf150r expert because they are a little taller for taller riders and a four stroke is a lot easier to ride than a 2 stroke, especially for a beginner. I would say got to a motocross shop and ask to sit on the bikes, even if you are getting a used bike sit on all of the bikes close to 85′s and 150′s in height. and make sure you can touch the ground- cause with boots it makes it a tad harder to tip toe to the ground.
How can I convince my parents to getting a ATV or dirt bike?

First you have to show that you have thought everything out. Where will you ride and how will you get there? Do you have friends who ride also or a public track so that you will not be riding alone? (Got to think safety – parents appreciate that) Riding gear is very important and must be included. (Safety again – I broke my foot once jumping basically because I crashed and was wearing my Nike shoes instead of my riding boots and the bike landed on left foot) Who is paying for everything? (If they are paying, you should show that you are willing to make some kind of sacrifice or contribution) Lastly, I would suggest the dirt bike myself as I was able to learn more tricks and have more fun on it and they are easier to get one that is the right size for you no matter your age.
Cuase if they fucking do i am hella getting it….that would be so cool to have….riding in the sand dunes and it looks like your riding in a tux hahaha that would be so tight

I got to say, that would look pretty sweet. I know a guy that used to ride around on his cruiser wearing a full 3-piece suit and tie.

Your best bet is to find something that's plain white and having someone airbrush a tuxedo look on to it. Then you could just wear black pants and black boots. Just make sure they airbrush in the handkerchief in the pocket and a nice red rose in the lapel!

I asked this last night and with the responses I received I understand I need to add more info. My son is 14 and lives with his dad in Wallace Idaho (1000 miles of trails area). I don't know if he rides now or not but he does not have his own bike so if he rides its on someone else's. He is a very strong built 14 year old. I'm thinking he is looking for a trail bike for riding and exploring the mountains not something for racing or hard riding. He said something about Yamaha or Kawasaki. I'm not sure if I will be able to afford this by Christmas but I want him to have one by next summer at least so any information I can get on bikes between now and then will help a lot. Thank you so much for all your help.

A 125 cc dirt bike is too small, believe me! at 14, he will out grow that bike too soon, and his friends will tease and make fun of him riding a small bike.
get him at least a 250cc dirt bike, or better yet a 400 or 450cc bike, he will never out grow that bike, if you think that bike is too fast and powerful for him, you can have the dealer restrict the throttle, then when he masters the bigger dirt bike, you can un-restrict the throttle, make sure he wears a full face helmet, pads, and boots, so if he wrecks, or falls off the bike he won't get hurt.
I know this my sound un safe but I never ride with ptotection gear except a helment since I have never gotten hurt. If I plan on riding at different places should I buy some like a chest protecter and boots? And how much would it cost.
Dirt bikes

Definitely buy the chest protector and boots at very minimum! And start wearing them now! I used to ride with sturdy work boots, and ended up limping for two weeks. A simple tip-over crash resulted in a footpeg nearly going through my leg.

Look on websites like www.denniskirk.com in the closeout section. I once found boots for 27 dollars. Normally they will cost you about 150 dollars. A chest protector will normally cost about 80-120 dollars.

This is only a fraction of the cost it would take to repair broken ankles. Or the funeral cost from having a stick go through your chest. These sorts of accidents happen very quickly!

Even with full gear, you can still get hurt, but the chances are FAR lower.

Last week, I was racing, and wearing full gear: chest protector, helmet, goggles, good motocross boots, gloves, racing pants, and jersey. I ended up with a very bad concussion, and broken collarbone. If I had been wearing one more piece of equipment (a "neck roll") I wouldn't have broken my collar bone.

If there are races around your area. Take a walk through the pit section. Many times, racers will be selling their used gear for very cheap prices!

Riding boots, you want to keep your feet looking good. I have seen feet crushed, gashed, burnt etc. Be safe first. They are making girls gear more girlie now. Great to see women ride.
