What are the requirements for turning my KX450 into a street legal motorcycle? What about CC requirements? Can I also try to make my 250cc street legal? Fees?

Don't even waste the money making the conversion. It's not worth it. Just sell it and go buy an enduro bike, which has the alt. and lights as well as being titled for registration, you will not find that the registration office will even make it street legal, being doccumented as dirt bike (Only).

This is just the simple truth. Already lived this.

I rode dirt bikes and street bike all my life and what you want to look at is not all dirt bike tires are the same compound of rubber also you need to check wether if tire is tube tire or tubeless .try ordering a motorcycle catalog like CHAPPARAL,OR MOTOSPORT {can order online} and go to dirt bike track and talk to different riders . heres one i'll give you there is 1 soft compound ,medium compound hard compound , note there is now street tires made for dirt bikes which is used on dirt and street =racing only, but also note there are enduro motorcycles which are street and dirt non aggressive . you should be able to read the difference between different surface effects on tires .i have spent thousands of dollars on tires thruoghout the years of riding ,so try ordering and hope this helps you in your project -good luck

Try flea-bay ! An old 850 for a 125 ? hmmmm ?
PS It would help if you said where you are from cos its a long way to ride from the UK to the States on a 125cc bike !
I was looking around for a bike (200s) to ride on trails preferably a two stroke. Ive got an older model and i wanted to upgrade any good bikes around that arent too hard on the wallet? Im about 5'7, 60kg(130lbs). Thanks in advance

A relatively inexpensive solid trail bike would be a Kawasaki KDX 200 or 220. they are one of the less expensive dirt bikes new and can usually find good deals on clean used ones around the $1000-1500 range.

they are set up for enduro, torquey yet with decent suspension & brakes. I have personally owned about 10 since 1980 and never had any serious problems. Parts are readily available, easy to work on, very reliable and long lasting.

likewise, at your height, it might be a little bit tall for you initially, but you can add lowering links to the rear suspension and slide the fork tubes up in the triple clamps to drop the seat height up to about 2.25 inches without loosing much, if any, suspension travel.

my son raced the area enduro circuit for about 5 years placing in the majority of the events on both a 200 & later on a 220.

I live in wallasey and i have been told that there is one in ellesmere port
could you tell me the details of this place or another place where i could ride my bike(not race)

What dirt bike is better off road or motor cross?

Pretty broad question…

there are varying different bikes designed for all different types of dirt event…

the KTM EXC / MXC / XC and yamaha WR / YZF & honda CRF both of the later with certain mods, are all great enduro, harescrambles, cross country, desert bikes.

the top 4 Jap (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki) and KTM pretty much dominate both SX & MX.

then there are others like the big Honda XR and the big bore KTM 525 that are more dominating in the desert & higher speed events.

then just fun trails type bikes include the Suzuki DRZ, Honda XR 200/250/400, Kawasaki KLX,

I have some enduro experience and im about ready to get a bigger engine than my XR100R. any advice?
i am 5'4. i have plenty of experience. i was gonna get a crf 150 but they're too heavy. what about a TTR125LE?
i want a bigger engine than a 100cc

If your over 5,7 and strong enough then get a 250four stroke if you want to be competative, but if its just for going practice tracks or messing around in the hills or woods ,then get a 125 2stroke if your not tall enough though get a 85cc or maybe a crf 150r,pick a bike you think suits you and feel comftable on,good luck keep riding
I am 6' 1'' and 155 lbs. and i currently own a 1986 Suzuki DR100. is this bike too small for me or will it work for now? Any other dirt bike tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes that is to small its a great starter bike now you need to think about what type of riding you do? the race bikes like YZ, KX.RM and such will have much more power but the power is at high RPM,s this makes them a little tough to ride in tight trails and woods but great in open area's the other type of bike is an enduro this will have more low end tork and trail ride better and still have lots of power but will not keep up with the race bikes i like a 250cc my self but it is a big jump from a Dr100 to a KX250 you might like the 125 .the 125 is fast but the 250 has more tork and is even faster. also there 4stroke race bikes now too but these are 400cc and similar animals to a 250cc 2stroke well if you are going to keep riding and getting better i would get a 250 and be careful till you get used to it you will be happy
I want the look of a dirt bike

Dual sport or dual purpose, enduro has a headlight taillight but not turn signals horn etc. and not street legal.
When it comes to riding on the street , of all the motorcycles ive had. the enduros were just far superior in heavily congested areas of the bay area. if i take a dirt bike and put a kit on it, you know the blinkers mirrors and stuff can i regester it with DMV? the reason for this is obvious if like to ride. light weight equals more time in the seat and i could go just about anywere.

I believe you just need to make sure it has the proper lights, liscense and registration. You also need to be sure your drivers liscense has the proper motorcycle endorsement for your state.

Your DMV online probably has the answers you need.
