Never owned a bike. 5'11'' 185 lbs. Looking to buy a used dirt bike, what do y'all think I should go with?
I am 23 yrs old

If your first qualification is used, that will depend on the bikes available for sale in your area. Couple of general points, though. At 5-11 you will need a bike with a full size frame. Tiny won't cut it, 125-250cc, but check it first, even at those displacements have seen 3/4 size frames .(kind for kids). Have you ever ridden before? If no, lightest bike you can find, you'll be picking it up a lot. Can't even tell you the number of times I've fallen! Check where you will be riding. Some sites have specific equipment rules. Don't spend everything you have, you will need some equipment. Minimum: Helmet, Gloves, Boots. Ever caught a lace in the foot peg in 5th gear so you could not shift? (not a lot of fun) Worry about weight, not displacement. You always have one piece of equipment that will keep you from getting in trouble by going too fast. (Hint, it's the place between your ears.) On Bike condition: does chain shift a lot side to side? Do tires show "age cracks"? Shake steering head, do top of forks rattle back and forth? On rear sprocket, are holes even or"dished" on side? All signs of wear, going to be medium to very expensive. If the bike won't start when you goto look at it, something is very(!) wrong. Get a mechanical friend to go with you to look at bikes to begin with. Ask what he is looking for, so you can do the same later. Best wishes, dirt down and sky up!
I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old boy who are interested in dirt biking. What age would it be appropriate for them to start? I think they are a little young, my husband disagrees. What age did your kids start?
Dirt bikes

I think thats great that they want to start, there really is no age limit, you just have to go to a local dirt bike retailer and check some bikes out because they come in a bunch of sizes, i've been riding since i was 2 so i know what I'm talking about, its just takes practice. just make sure you teacher your kids and they should be fine.
Does anyone know where I can buy a kids dirt bike helmet at a good price. The cheapest I found is $50 including shipping & handling.

You don't want to always go cheap when it comes to safety equipment.

All bikes are not created equal.
This is what quite a few people have told me.

Don't know where your from. but the guys answering above don't race in the UK. the kids here start at 2 or 3yrs old. and are winning races a couple of yrs later. you will never be in the same league as them. its not too late to learn to ride for fun. but be under no illusion you can beat these kids. take it up as a hobby, beat your friends. don't plough loads of money into a non starter career.
We have some ppl in our neighborhood complaing about my little brother and his friends riding their dirtbikes in an empty field. they say that they dont want them on THEIR street, bc they let their little kids play in the street. the only time they are near the street is when they are going from the house to the field or back home and they ride on the side of the street. So legally what can we do??
Dirt bikes

Legally you can do nothing.
Dirt bikes on the street are illegal.
Riding on others property without permission is illegal.
Also, noise ordinances in residential areas would make most dirt bikes illegal.
Im 14 years old and i got my first dirt bike when i was 12 and i have been riding on our land ever since then and now i want to start racing and i have never been on a dirt track so what should i do am i to old to be a pro when im older?
Dirt bikes

People say your never too old…

well that is true but not if your my age. lol

When you got kids a mortgage and have to keep your job (meaning I cant get hurt) then yes you can be too old. But at your age I say go for it!
Bones dont mend as easily when your 36 as they do when your 14.

I have enough money to buy one but they think I can’t handle it. They won’t even let me buy myself a Dirt bike because it is ‘too dangerous’. I’m 17. How can I persuade them to let me ride at least a dirt bike?

How long before you're 18? That's the best solution if you can stand the wait.

But, honestly you have got to look at both sides of this. Obviously your parents care about you even though they are probably going about it wrong. 17 is old enough to handle the responsibility of riding, but parents tend to want to protect their kids for as long as possible.

Have you taken your MSF class yet? Even if you don't get the bike till you're 18, having the class behind you is a good thing.

Another thing that might help is to get an adult that your parents have some respect for to vouch for your capability. Sometimes parents will listen to other adults when they won't to their own kids….been there, done that, learned from it too.

Don't ever give up because you never know when they might weaken. Normally I don't advocate heckling one's parents, but you sound responsible enough for the bike. You saved up your own money…good sign of responsibility. You are asking others for advice…another good sign of responsibility. So I'm thinking you can handle riding just fine.

Worst case scenario is that you must wait till you turn 18. Long time to a teen, but not that long in reality.

You're going to ride bud, just maybe not real quick.

I have a problem, i need to know how old you have to be to drive a mini dirt bike,,,,,,,…….. please help!!!

Your "mini" dirt bike is probably not street legal, so you can not ride it on the street at any age. Off-road use has no age requirements, but you need permission of the property owner where you are riding. I have seen kids as young as 4-5 riding small bikes, but the speed of the bike should be limited to prevent any serious injuries during falls that will happen.
