Mini Dirt Bike In City?

I live in a small city with wide roads and open space. Is it a good idea to buy a mini dirt bike to go to my uni 3 km (on tar road) and also try some stunts in evening?

what bout the tires?

does it need a driving liscence (MINI dirt bike)?

i'm looking at it as a fun bike more and transport less.

Your mini-dirt bike is probably not legal to operate on public roadways, and may get you a couple of traffic tickets. If you want to ride a motor vehicle on public streets, buy one that's licensed for the street.

How do i make a dirt bike street legal? i live in CT. please dont tell me to buy a dual sport bike. i hate the way they look and i want some aggressive treads for off road use as well.

another question: what does the increase engine size do? whats the difference between a 250 and a 450? more horsepower? faster acceleration? im just buying my first bike (ive been riding for a long time though), so i need any advice you have.

Way more trouble than it is worth.
requires:

Modification of the charging system and connection of a battery.
Wiring of lights, head+hi-lo, brake ,tail ,marker and turn lights and all the switches that go with them including a breaker panel or fuse box.
Street legal exhaust and appropriate engine de-tuning.
Street legal tires ( Knobs are no street legal)
A key ignition.
In most states ,fender height on MX bikes are too high and need to be lowered.

And there is no "Cheating" because the bike will have to pass a physical inspection before it is licensed .

I've done a couple, A Honda XR500 and a Yamaha IT425.

Even though it's not what you want to hear ,my advice is to get a dual purpose and "trick it out" rather than trying to make a MX bike street legal.

Can you ride a dirt bike through mud and snow or will it not move. if so will an atv go through mud and snow

For snow/ice you get spike tires. If it's higher than youre axles stay out of it.

Trying To Compression Start My Dirt Bike

I have a 125cc pit bike. its basicly a dirt bike but with smaller tires. Its a four stroke but just has a kick starter. My method for compression start is as follows…
Turn run switch to run.
pull in clutch
get rolling down hill
release clutch
apply gas

Will my bike weely? what gear is best.

What Is A DOT (Department Of Transportation) Approved Dirt Bike?

Does this mean it can be registered, licensed, insured, and driven on roads? My bike is DOT approved but doesn't have any lights/blinkers/mirrors/horn. Are these required?

DOT approval for a dirt bike means that it is allowed into this country (if the chinese importer didnt lie to you) It passes emissions standards and has approved brakes and tires.
No it is not road legal.

Just buy different tires that have dirt tread on them. i use my "park" wheels on dirt doesnt make to much difference i find.

Does anyone know of any good websites that offer very cheap priced dirt bike / street tires for a suzuki dr250s? ebay is no help and the official tire sites are way expensive.

Man, try your local dealer. Most dealers now a days understand that tires are going to be a loss leader item and use them to gain customers.

I sell tires at $10 over cost everyday, and can get anything you want THAT IS AVAILABLE (think about the resent Dunlop strike) in two days or less.

There is no point supporting another dealer or mail order company when you can keep your dollars in your area. Try it, you might be surprised!

Ive built some jumps on my farm but i cant figure out what i should buy, either a dirt jumper or a bmx bike?
which is better for dirt jumps?

I have a 26' Dirt jump bike, i like it better because the the tires are bigger and having a 4in travel fork on it makes it feel a whole lot better. On the other hand bmx bikes are easer to throw around in the air making tricks easer.
